The Blue Oak School Difference

In the words of our students and parents…

Blue Oak Middle School Student

The projects that we do in sixth grade are hands-on and help us to learn about things more deeply; it’s so much better than just reading a book and writing a report. For example, I am creating a multimedia presentation on Lewis and Clark. This project is helping me learn about this expedition and about how to use my laptop in ways I didn’t know about before. Blue Oak is an extraordinary school and I am glad I am here.

Blue Oak School Alumna, Class of 2008

When the School began in 2002, I entered as a third grade student.  At first I was nervous; I wondered who would be my friends? Would I like my teachers? But I was welcomed with open arms.   In my six years at Blue Oak School, I came to value community as the most important aspect of the School.  Everyone is taught to treat each other with kindness, respect and to allow for individual differences in a comfortable and open environment. I was encouraged and able to learn based on my individual needs, thanks to the small classes and amazing teachers.  Now that I’ve graduated and am moving on to high school, I feel well prepared for the transition in academics and social skills.  I have received an outstanding education through the many opportunities and experiences that were unique to a Blue Oak School education. For this I am grateful; Blue Oak will always hold a special place in my heart.

Blue Oak Lower School Parent

Blue Oak School is an outstanding school and we are very happy to have our child in the School.  There is a tremendous sense of community at the School and my child is treated as an important member of that community.  Blue Oak School offers a top notch education, which includes art, drama, Spanish, PE and music - all wonderfully integrated into the curriculum.  It is a very special place.

The middle school is so often the missing link in a school system - large, impersonal, even scary. The Blue Oak Middle School offers its students a small, caring and safe environment in which they can spread their wings, academically, intellectually and socially. My daughter's intellectual curiosity has been set on fire. She has delved deeper into the curriculum through independent study projects, expanded homework and subjects we have taken on at home. When asked what she thought made the Middle School great, she simply said, "the teachers."
