Investing in Your Child's Education

The Investment

We believe that a family's investment in a child's future is one of the best investments a family can make.  This is particularly true of the investment one makes in an independent school education.

The Benefits Accrue over a Lifetime

For the past ten years, families have invested in a Blue Oak School education because they know that Blue Oak School:

  • Provides a challenging academic program
  • Fosters confidence and develops character
  • Nurtures intellectual curiosity
  • Stimulates creativity through an integrated curriculum
  • Develops critical-thinking skills
  • Instills accountability and responsibility
  • Prepares students for higher educational challenges
  • Promotes habits of mind and values that endure

Cost of Attendance

Tuition for the 2011 - 2012 school year is $19,544.  Tuition for the 2012 - 2013 school year will be set by the Board of Trustees in early 2012.  We strive to include all costs in our tuition charges so that families do not find themselves enduring additional charges on a monthly basis.

Since its founding in 2002, Blue Oak has been committed to making our school accessible and affordable to all.  Among our families are those who have the ability to pay the full cost of a Blue Oak tuition and whose philanthropic generosity provides funds that enable others' children to attend.  Some families manage to pay tuition at the highest level only by making substantial sacrifices, while others are only able to afford minimal tuition, and yet others fall across the spectrum in-between.

While Blue Oak believes that the primary responsibility for educating a child falls to the parent and that each family should contribute towards the cost of their child's education, we do not expect each tuition level to be the same.  In 2011, in an effort to help families realize that a Blue Oak School education can be affordable, Blue Oak moved from awarding financial aid to offering families an "Indexed Tuition".

What is Indexed Tuition?

Indexed Tuition allows Blue Oak School to offer a range of tuitions to support the economic diversity that is such an important component of our school community.  It is a sliding scale tuition that is strictly need-based and recognizes that each family's financial situation is unique.

Should my Family Consider Indexed Tuition?

Blue Oak School encourages families to request an Indexed Tuition Packet if they have concerns about their ability to afford the annual tuition set by the Board of Trustees.  It is impossible for the School, or for a family, to determine the exact level of tuition unless the entire Indexed Tuition Packet is completed.  Each family's financial situation is considered thoroughly and confidentially on an individual basis to ensure attention to special circumstances.  A family's indexed tuition rate is reviewed every year and may be adjusted as family circumstances change.  All applications for Indexed Tuition are confidential.  Blue Oak School does not share a family's financial information with other families or with Blue Oak School faculty.

Not all families who apply for Indexed Tuition will receive an Indexed Tuition contract.  With limited resources, Blue Oak must work to provide access to families across all nine grades and it is simply not possible to provide an indexed tuition to every family who requests assistance.

Please read our Indexed Tuition Information brochure or contact Barb Lundberg, 707-261-4522 or email blundberg@blueoakschool.org if you have questions about Indexed Tuition or to request an Indexed Tuition Packet.
