One of the best ways to be part of your child’s school experience is to participate in the programs offered at Blue Oak School.
Not only do those who find the time to volunteer benefit from being actively engaged, but the children see that their education is important to the adults in their community. Clearly we would not be able to offer the full and innovative program we do without the help of our parent volunteers.
Each year, parents have the opportunity to indicate the areas in which they would like to be involved in both the classroom and the life of the School generally. There are many opportunities to volunteer.
The following are some of the ways parents can get involved at Blue Oak School, including a list of PA events that enlist the help of volunteers:
-
Beneath the Canopy Benefit Auction
An annual not-to-be-missed event! Each spring, Blue Oak School sponsors a weekend of auction activities that include a silent and live auction. There are many ways to participate and support this exciting and important fundraising event.
-
Field Trips
All classes take field trips and parent support is needed and appreciated.
-
Breakaway
This experiential cross-grade educational week in the Lower School gives students and teachers the opportunity to delve deeply into one area of learning. Parents are encouraged to help lead or support these programs of instruction.
-
Library
Spending time in the Lower School library, helping students find books, re-shelving books and reading to students, is a great way to help.
-
Host
Family Program
Current Blue Oak School families volunteer to welcome new families to the community each spring. They often plan play dates so all members of the family can get to know each other. When school begins in the fall, new students and their families feel a part of the School.
-
Classroom
Parents are encouraged to work in the classroom, especially in the Lower School. Spending an hour or so helping in the classroom is fun for the child and provides additional support to children in skill development or special projects.
