Silent Auction Benefit Breaks Records
Napa, CA – It was a record breaking year for Blue Oak School and its sixth annual Beneath the Canopy benefit auction on May 2. The sold out silent auction event raised almost $220,000 – more than any other silent auction in the School’s history. The monies raised at auction directly support the School’s program and financial aid fund.
In an effort to be sensitive to the current economic climate, the School’s auction committee simplified plans for this year, offering a single silent auction event, as opposed to the usual two days of events that include both a silent auction and a separate live auction. Featuring over 200 silent lots from exclusive wines to travel packages and children’s activities, and a popular Calcutta during which guests bid to “own” a 2009 Kentucky Derby racehorse, the event had something for everyone.
In keeping with the Derby theme, Southern-style food was provided by Blue Oak School parents and executive chefs Jeff Cerciello of Bouchon and Todd Humphries of Martini House. Auctioneers Fritz Hatton and John Glines kept things hopping and live music from California Zephyr added to the festive atmosphere. Walsh Vineyard Management partner and Blue Oak School board chair, Tim Rodgers, donated the venue for the event.
Established in 2002, Blue Oak School is the first independent school in the Napa Valley. A member of the Progressive Education Network, an affiliate member of the California and National Association of Independent Schools, and recently accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Blue Oak School offers a distinctive program designed to educate the whole child through active, cooperative learning in a diverse and supportive community.
