Other Resources

Blue Oak School recommends several websites to help you become familiar with independent schools in general and Blue Oak School in particular. They are:

  • The Blue Oak School website offers detailed information about the School, its mission and programs.
  • The National Association of Independent Schools   (NAIS) has excellent information on schools, the admission process, financial aid, teaching, and more. Blue Oak School is an affiliate member of NAIS.
  • The California Association of Independent Schools   (CAIS) gives more local information on some of the same topics as NAIS. Blue Oak School is an affiliate member of CAIS.
  • Progressive Education Network  (PEN) is comprised of educators dedicated to supporting progressive practices through networking and action. The PEN website is a good resource for information about progressive education past, present and future. Blue Oak School is a member of PEN.
  • Western Association of Schools and Colleges  (WASC) is one of only six accrediting associations in the United States. Its website provides information on the value of accreditation, how schools are evaluated and requirements for accreditation. The accreditation process is designed to strengthen schools in the delivery of educational programs.  Blue Oak School is accredited by WASC.
  • Bay Area Private Schools Online Guide  for all private schools in the Bay Area and is even more local. It includes more than independent schools however, so some of the information is not relevant to Blue Oak School.
  • ParentNet®  is a parent-led program for grades pre-K through 12 that facilitates discussion of everyday parenting topics, child development, and student achievement. It encourages parent networking and mutual support while enhancing communication between parents, students and schools.
