Blue Oak School Summer Program offers exceptional opportunities for Napa area students to learn and play in and around the Napa Valley. We provide an environment where children are challenged and engaged in active, joyful discovery.

ur Summer Program classes are for children entering grades 1-8 and are open to all children regardless of whether or not they attend Blue Oak School. We offer a balanced schedule of physical, creative and fun-filled activities in a relaxed and nurturing environment. Small class size, 6-12 students for most classes, supports multiple learning styles and promotes individualized attention.

Middle School Girls Basketball (Grades 4 and up)
Dates: June 6—10 Times: M-F, 9am-noon Fee: $130
Blue Oak Girls Basketball Camp is a weeklong program designed for players to learn, develop and refine their fundamental basketball skills. The program will emphasize ball-handling, passing, shooting, rebounding, defense, teamwork and sportsmanship. Participants will develop skills through repetition, drills, scrimmage, and individualized shot tracking. Get ready to improve your skills and physical health while also having lots of fun!

Pure Potential Soccer Camp (Ages 5 and up)
Dates: June 13 – June 17 Times: M-F, 9am –noon Fee: $150
This camp will partner with Pure Potential Soccer, which has developed a program that simplifies effective fundamentals that will create consistency in the game of soccer. Pure Potential Soccer camp director, Abe Torres, and his coaches and trainers will help players learn the basic skills to give a true understanding of the game of soccer. Teamwork is emphasized and sportsmanship is expected. By simplifying Pure Potential's method, the learning curve is greater so we can focus on creative play.

Middle School Volleyball (Grades 5 - 8)
Dates: June 20-24 Times: M-F, 9am-noon Fee: $130
Bump! Set! Spike! This camp will cover the fundamentals of passing, setting, hitting, serving, and defense, as well as game play, strategy, and teamwork. It is open to boys and girls.

Kindergarten Readiness (Entering Kindergarten)
Dates: June 27-July 1 Times: M – F, 9am – noon Fee: $150
Get ready, get set and go to kindergarten with a special class designed just for children entering school in the fall! We will explore reading, writing, science and math concepts while we learn about summer fruits. Our class combines morning circle, stories, songs, a trip to the farmer’s market, crafts, math games and other fun projects that will help prepare your child for his or her next step in school.

Lower School Drama (Ages 7-11)

Calling all actors! For students interested in theatrical training, don't miss out on this summer's Drama program! The half-day sessions consist of drama games, improv and scene study. Come work as an ensemble to create an original dramatic piece to be performed in front of special guests! It will be a blast!

Cooking With Kim (Grades 3 and up)

Future bakers and scientists alike should not miss this fun and messy class all about Bread from around the world. Children will spend time learning about the science of baking, make breads from many cultures and then create their own recipe to test out at the end of the week.

Be Cool with Hot Glass (Grade 5 and up)
Dates: June 27 – July 1 Times: M – F, 1pm-4pm Fee: $160
Explore glass by making your own fused glass art objects. Create luminous translucent tiles, fish and more by cutting and assembling glass and then either melting the pieces together in a kiln or use them to design your own mosaic name plaque. Discover the properties and types of glass to be used, such as stringer and frit. Investigate the ancient history of glass and its use in many cultures.

Get Published! (Grades 5 and up)
Dates: June 27-July 1 Time: M-F, 9am-noon Fee: $150
Calling all poets, storytellers, researchers, painters, drawers, photographers, and comic book makers! Ever wish you could take the time to create and publish your own book? This camp will carve out the time and space to do just that. Using lulu.com, each student will design and create a book of his or her choice. It might be fiction, nonfiction, or a book of images coupled with words - the choice is yours! Put on your creative hat and produce a book that you can sell worldwide.

Create Your Own World (Grades 3 and up)
Dates: June 27 – July 1 Times: M – F, 9am - noon Fee: $160
Explore the world of glass mosaics and design your own planet. Create your world by cutting and assembling glass mosaic tiles. Cover found objects with mosaic glass and discover how to grout what you create. Investigate the history and cultures where mosaics are found (in Napa!).

Nature Science (Grades 1 - 4)
Dates: July 11 – July 15 Times: M-F, 9am– noon Fee: $160
Come and join us for five active days of adventure and discovery! The Middle School science lab will serve as our base camp as we explore nature trails, meadows, ponds, streams and forests. We will learn about plants, animals, insects and habitats through experiments, projects, games and other activities. Participants will create science journals to showcase their discoveries.

Clay Play for Happy Campers (Ages 5 and up)
Dates: July 11-15 Time: M-F, 1pm -4pm Fee: $160
Join in for a fun filled week of working with clay and being creative. Each day will include making a project in clay, along with time to play outdoors with camp friends. Some projects include making a pot on the potter’s wheel, building with slabs, and modeling clay sculptures. Outdoor activities include playing games, group exercise and time on the playground.

Yoga Fun (Grades 1 - 5)
Dates: July 11 – July 15 Times: M-F, 1pm-4pm Fee: $150
Calling all yogis and yoginis! (that means everybody!). Yoga and kids go together like peanut butter and jelly - come practice sandwich pose with us! Yoga encourages us to move, stretch, strengthen, build mental focus, and relax. We will practice yoga poses and various breathing techniques, play games, listen to, write, and teach visualizations, affirmations, and meditations, do art projects, practice partner and group poses, savour a healthy "yoga snack" together, go on "yoga walks" to explore yoga in nature, and do a bit of giggling - great for the immune system! Students will learn the benefits of the poses and construct a "yoga tool belt" and personal practice that are individualized to their own physical, mental, and emotional needs and lifestyle. We will touch upon yoga history, philosophy, Sanscrit, the chakra system, and Ayurveda as they pertain to students' interests and concerns. Fun, laughs, learning, and rest guaranteed!

The Young Potter (Grades 4 through 8))
Dates: July 11-15 Time: M-F, 9am-noon Fee: $160
Pottery camp at Blue Oak School. Learn about pottery making and how to work with clay. The class will include learning to throw pottery on a potters wheel, how to work with slabs, and coil building. Students will be given demonstrations on pottery making techniques, then have independent time to work on self chosen projects with guidance from the instructor. Each day there will be time available to practice on the pottery wheel.

Laptop Tools, Tricks and Exploration ( Grades 6-8)
Dates: July 11 –July 15 Time: M-F, 1pm-4pm Fee: $150
Come spend some time learning your way around the Middle School laptops. Whether you are a computer whiz or new to the laptop, you will learn some new tools and sharpen your skills. You will learn how to set up your personalized homepage, navigate the programs in Windows 7, and try shortcuts and tools to make your student life easier and more productive. We will also spend part of each day learning new presentation tools, including video, blogs, podcasts and animations. Join our group for fun, exploration and new skills for middle school.

Middle School Boys Basketball (Grades 5 – 8)

Want to be a better basketball player? Join us for an intensive week of learning, practice and play. Our program is full of fun drills and games for basketball beginners and enthusiasts. We’ll help you sharpen your fundamental skills and learn basic strategies that will let you take your game to the next level.

Outdoor Adventure Camp: Andy Goldsworthy meets John Muir (Ages 8 and up **See below)
Dates: Session One: July 18-22 Session Two: July 25-29

Join us for a week of kayaking, rock climbing and hiking in the beautiful Napa Valley. Following the Blue Oak tradition, we will leave the places we visit in better shape than before our arrival. Along the way, we will create Andy Goldsworthy inspired art, such as site-specific sculpture and land art. Bring your cameras to document what we create!
This camp will partner with Kayak NV and Rockzilla.
**8 and 9 year olds will need an adult companion for the 2 half-day kayaking sessions.

Paint your own Mandala (Grades 5-8)
Dates: Session One: July 25-29 Session Two: August 1-5
Times: M-F, 1pm-4pm Fee: $175
Come and explore your creative side by using simple tools and techniques to create your very own work of art. Mandala is a Sanskrit word for circle. These designs are found in every culture and are used for healing and transformation throughout the world. Each participant will create a colorful personal mandala.

Art Around the World (Grades 1-4)
Dates: July 25-29 Times: M-F, 9am-noon Fee: $160
Students will explore fine art from a variety of cultures around the world. Your child will create African Masks made from papier maché, Japanese landscapes, Aboriginal folk art, and European style windows and doors. Students will learn how the elements of art and the use of multiple mediums are used throughout the world we live in.

Sculpture in a Variety of Art Forms (Grades 1-4)
Dates: July 25-29 Times: M-F, 1pm-4pm Fee: $160
Who loves to get their hands dirty and experience free expression in the world of 3-dimensional forms? If so, this is the camp for you. We will sculpt, mold and define sculptures ranging from over-sized objects to miniatures. We will use recycled material, plaster of paris and papier maché to sculpt memorable keepsakes that your child will be proud of.

The Art of Egyptian, Greek and Roman Cultures (Grades 1-4)
Dates: August 1-5 Times: M-F, 9am-noon Fee: $160
If your child is ready for a field trip that they will remember for a lifetime, sign up for this adventure camp to learn more about ancient world civilizations. As a peek at what your child will experience, we will recreate pyramids, frescoes, clothing and accessories with all the embellishments. Students will have an opportunity to learn an overview of these times through myths and storytelling.

Art in the Style of Master Artists (Grades 1-4)
Dates: August 1-5 Times: M-F, 1pm-4pm Fee: $160
This camp will allow your young artist to travel along an art history timeline from prehistoric art to the present. We will learn how art has evolved over time and how the elements of art have been used. Students will create fine art pieces in the style of master artists from different time periods.

Just the Facts Math Camp(Grades 4 and up)
Dates: August 8-12 Times: 9:00am - 12:00pm Fee: $150.00
Come join us for a fun and interactive math camp to help review and reinforce the math facts for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will practice the math facts while playing games such as Simon Says, Connect Four, Secret Door, Gotcha, Musical Chairs, Bean Bag Toss and many more. This would be an excellent review and refresher before school starts. Come and join the fun!

School Harvest Party (Grades 1 and up)
Dates: August 8- 12 Times: 1:00- 4:00pm Fee: $150.00
Come and help us harvest delicious vegetables and herbs such as tomatoes, pole beans, zucchini, basil and parsley from our own Blue Oak School garden. After harvesting, we will can our vegetables and our own Midday Marinara sauce. At the end of the week, we will celebrate with a summer harvest party and invite families to join us for summer harvest lunch.

High School Placement Test Preparation
(Entering 8th Grade)
Dates: August 22-26 Time: M-F, 9am-noon* Fee: $175
This course is designed to introduce eighth grade students to information, skills and tactics for taking the HSPT (for Justin-Siena High School) and the SSAT (for independent private high schools). It will cover all sections of the tests: mathematics, reading comprehension, verbal, logic and writing. First, students will take a diagnostic test. Then, we will spend the bulk of the week focusing on each section separately. Lastly, students will take a full practice test on the final day of the camp. The results of this test will allow students to view their strengths and target areas that call for further reinforcement. Students will leave the camp more experienced with standardized test-taking in general, and they will have a clear plan about how to prepare for the real tests in the winter.
*Note: Friday, August 26 class will end at 1pm
