Americans constitute 5% of the world's population but consume 24% of the world's energy. On average, one American consumes as much energy as 2 Japanese, 6 Mexicans, 13 Chinese, 31 Indians, 128 Bangladeshis, 307 Tanzanians, or 370 Ethiopians.”
P. Ehrlich. Population Bomb, PBS website http://www.pbs.org/kqed/population_bomb/danger

Our reliance on imported fossil fuels has had significant consequences on our environment, our economy and personal health. The purpose of doing this project is to become more familiar with energy conservation and the variety of alternative energy resources available for generating electricity, transportation, heating and cooking.  You and your partner will become experts on one of the energy resources and present your findings to the class.

Your presentation should include

·         Current information and statistics on the availability of the resource

·         Current level of use and projected level of use

·         The advantages and disadvantages of using the resource

·         Recent research and technological advancements

To present your information you may produce one of the following: poster, skit, song, powerpoint, website, public service announcement, TV/ radio advertisement, or interview style report. Creativity is encouraged! Presentations should be from 5 to 10 minutes long.  In addition, you must have a one page brochure summarizing your energy resource information. You must also include a bibliography of print and internet resources.

You will pick your topic from a hat on Thursday January 29th and have until February 9th to conduct research and produce your brochure and presentation.  Efficient use of this time will impact your grade on the project!

Presentations will start on Monday February 9th.

Topics in the hat…

Efficiency and Conservation of Energy

Solar Power

Wind Power

Fuel Cell

Hybrid and electric vehicles

Nuclear Power

Hydroelectric Power

Biofuels/biomass/methane

Geothermal Energy
